Classify the origin correctly
Japan treats designated and non-designated regions differently. The continental United States follows the non-designated-region path, while Hawaii and Guam are designated regions. Record origin, country history, transit, species, arrival port, and travel date before building the schedule.
Complete identification and rabies steps in order
For the non-designated route, work with the veterinarian to confirm a readable qualifying microchip and the required rabies-vaccination sequence after microchipping. Preserve every date, product, validity period, and microchip scan because later steps depend on them.

Use an approved laboratory and record the blood-sampling date and result. Japan's 180-day waiting period is counted from the blood-sampling date; arriving before the wait is complete can create detention for the remaining period.
